Spanish Animation in the Spotlight
We now turn our attention to the creative and production journeys of Rock Bottom, Black Butterflies, and Sultana’s Dream. The first was selected for the ‘Feature Films’ competition section, while the second was selected for ‘Contrechamp’. Also competitive, the ‘Contrechamp’ section, introduced in 2019, aims to “provide a better platform for the most unique proposals and those that present greater challenges to the audience.” All three films prominently feature female components. Meanwhile, Buffalo Kids, showcased in the ‘Annecy Presents’ section, serves as a prime example of a title with a strong market appeal for general audiences.

Since Destroyer, the first Spanish video game to be commercialized, appeared in 1980, the Spanish video game industry has gone through different phases, not all of them involving growth. There have been moments of great splendor and popularity, but also unremarkable periods of time. We are currently witnessing the peak of the industry's history in terms of the number of Spanish video games developed, and perhaps also in terms of quality, to the point that we are already beginning to talk about a second golden age for Spanish software.

The Gala Premiere of The Violinist takes place today in Singapore!🔥
A Singaporean-Spanish-Italian co-production, the film is co-directed by Ervin Han and Spanish animation veteran Raul Garcia. Following its historic recognition with the Cristal for Best Feature Film at the Festival international du film d'animation d'Annecy, The Violinist now begins its theatrical journey in #Singapore.
The film will be released in cinemas across Singapore, including both commercial and independent venues, on 17 September.
