History has been made at Annecy 2026.
The international co-production "La violinista", directed by veteran animator Raúl García and Ervin Han, has claimed the prestigious Cristal Award for Best Feature Film, marking the first time a film with Spanish involvement has secured the festival's highest honor since 1960.
Co-produced across Spain, Singapore, and Italy, the project exemplifies the key strategic trends driving the global animation industry today:
- Intercontinental Alliances: Leveraging cross-border partnerships to scale regional stories into high-value global assets.
- Aesthetic Innovation: Seamlessly blending a rich 2D pictorial style with advanced 3D sequences to capture global market appeal.
The triumph for Spanish animation is double, as Alberto Vázquez's brilliant project Decorado was also awarded the Paul Grimault Award, celebrating exceptional artistic ambition and visual commitment.
Winning these top honors in a year of fierce competition against major global studios proves that Spain's animation ecosystem has reached a new peak of international competitiveness. Huge congratulations to the creators, producers, and teams involved!
