The companies grouped under the umbrella of Animation From Spain will have a prominent presence during the upcoming edition of MIFA at the Annecy International Animation Film Festival in France. Networking activities, matchmaking sessions, industry panels, and various nominated contents in the different categories of the Festival highlight the significance of Spanish animation in this new edition.

There will be several activities reinforcing the Spanish presence during the next edition of MIFA at the Annecy International Animation Film Festival in France. With a total of 60 Spanish companies registered and more than 100 delegates representing the best of our country's animation, this new edition of MIFA promises to make waves.

In this context, several organized activities deserve to be scheduled to learn about the latest developments in the sector.

AGENDA:

· Informal networking meeting with the Chilean delegation: Tuesday, June 11, 12:00pm (Chile Stand, C.21)

· Breakfast: matchmaking space (Telefilm Canada & ICEX - Spain): Wednesday, June 12 / 9:00am (Salle Gardens Party)

· The Spanish Animation Industry in the Spotlight: Wednesday, June 12 / 4:00pm (Salle de l’Europe, 1st floor)

· Women in Animation from Spain: Thursday, June 13 / 10:45am (Room Haendel, 5th floor)

· Networking meeting with the Brazilian delegation: Thursday, June 13 / 5:00pm (Brazilian Content Stand, C.20)

BREAKFAST: MATCHMAKING SPACE (TELEFILM CANADA & ICEX - SPAIN)

This closed working breakfast will take place on Wednesday, June 12 from 9 to 11am. Up to 40 participants (20 Canadian participants and 20 Spanish participants) can attend, during which meetings between companies from both countries will be held to facilitate co-production options. In total, 27 Canadian companies and 30 Spanish companies have applied to participate.

The activity is also organized as a continuation of a series of events promoting closer ties between the Spanish and Canadian sectors. This was the case on May 24 when a webinar between Spain and Canada was organized, featuring Ken Proulx, Director of Partnership & Export at Telefilm Canada, Carmen Jordán, Director of Creative Industries at ICEX, Verónica Buide, President of the Women in the Animation Industry Association (MIA), and Constance Richard, Consultant and Supervisor of the RDVCANADA I Animations Program.

THE SPANISH ANIMATION INDUSTRY IN THE SPOTLIGHT

Also on Wednesday, June 12, from 4pm to 5:15pm, an activity will take place to discover through a content showcase the different developments in the Spanish animation industry. The goal is also to analyze opportunities for collaboration and co-production with Spain. Among the content, details about El Sueño de la Sultana, directed by Isa Herguera and produced by Diego Herguera, Mariposas Negras, directed by David Baute and produced by Edmon Roch, and Rock Bottom, produced by Alba Sotorra and directed by María Trenor, the first female director in the official competition, will be presented. It is also noteworthy that Rock Bottom participated in the first Pitch session of Women in Animation from Spain organized by ICEX/ICAA in 2022.

María Trenor's film will participate in the Official Competition Section, while David Baute's and Isabel Herguera's films will be seen in the Contrechamp section.

Participants in this special session include: Isabel Herguera, director, screenwriter, producer, and art director of Sultana Films, Diego Herguera Acosta, Producer of Sultana Films, Edmon Roch, Producer of Ikiru Films, Daysi Cruz Cid, Business Development Director of Morgana VFX & Motion, Carlos F. De Vigo, CEO & Founder of DR. Platypus & Ms. Wombat, Álvaro García González, Executive Producer and Development at Hampa Studio, Alba Sotorra Clua, Producer at Alba Sotorra Cinema Productions, María Trenor, Director at Alba Sotorra Cinema Productions, and Carolina López Caballero, session moderator and Director of the ANIMAC Festival.

At the end of the session, a cocktail will be held for the speakers and some attendees at the Terrasse Salon Impérial.

OTHER PROJECTS IN COMPETITION

This year, the following Spanish projects will also compete in different categories:

· The Change of the Wheel (El cambio de rueda) by Begoña Arostegui and produced by Ferdydurke Films (Category: Perspectives)

· When It Comes (Etorriko da) by director Izibene Oñederra Aramendi (Category: Official Short Film Competition)

· Alice Diary's co-produced by Hampa Studio (Category: TV Films)

· Olivia and the Invisible Earthquake by Irene Iborra (Citoplasmas Stopmotion and Cornelius Films), out of competition in the Work in Progress section.

Meanwhile, in the Annecy Presents section, Juan (Galo) Galocha and Pedro Solís will premiere their film Buffalo Kids.

WOMEN IN ANIMATION FROM SPAIN

On the morning of Thursday, June 13, from 10:45am to 12:00pm, the presentation of the selected projects for the activity called Women In Animation From Spain will take place, a special activity where six projects led by women from the main Spanish animation companies will be presented, seeking international partners for co-production.

The selected projects, in order of presentation, are:

· Jasmine & Jambo (Marta Alonso, Producer, Silvia Cortés, Director)

· Something in the House (Carla Pereira Docampo, Director, Screenwriter, and Producer)

· Eva & Evariste (Lorena Ares Lago, Director)

· Wixi against the Binary Lens (María Sol Cifuentes Corral, Executive Producer)

· Azul's Journey (Aline Romero, Director)

· Only Rats (Paz Carre de la Portilla, Director, Leticia Montalvá Sánchez, Producer)
