Milo is a show about an adventurous five-year-old cat who loves to use role-play to explore the amazing world of jobs and vocations. Milo lives with his parents, who own a dry-cleaning shop called Scrubby’s. Inside the dry cleaners is a special and friendly mechanical robot called Suds, who cleans and stores all the customer clothes. Each episode, Milo and his best friends, Lofty & Lark, interact with Suds to try on different outfits; the trio are then transported to the world of that specific vocation. The show aims to introduce pre-school children to the large variety of vocations and their associated outfits, vehicles and uniforms in a fun and entertaining way. The Glumpers are a gang, a group of friends living together whose opposite and extremely stereotyped features will interact continuously. If between humans a simple discussion will generally end up with only a couple of insults, in the case of the Glumpers it can end up, in the best of cases, in an atomic explosion.

Aya in the desert
On the coast of Cádiz, a group of sub-Saharan migrants is intercepted and taken to a sports centre to spend the night. Among them is Aya, a 13-year-old girl, dressed as a boy. While she tries to get in touch with her cousin who lives in Spain, Aya remembers the most important episodes of her journey, from the moment she fled the war in Ivory Coast, until she crosses the strait in a boat. Throughout this journey, Aya imagines the adventures of legendary Baulé Queen Akwa Boni as a reflection of her own experiences, which helps her face the hardest moments and keep the memory of his mother alive, hoping to see her again one day.

After moving to a new city, a nonbinary person with social anxiety must navigate forming new friendships while hiding a mysterious insect: Bitxo. Fearing rejection, B hides Bitxo, making social interactions harder. One day, B meets Ali, who reveals her own creature, Alimaña. With Ali’s support, B sets Bitxo free, paving the way for their own growth and self-acceptance. The story ends with B and Ali walking toward the sunrise, their insects flying alongside them.

Spanish Animation in the Spotlight
We now turn our attention to the creative and production journeys of Rock Bottom, Black Butterflies, and Sultana’s Dream. The first was selected for the ‘Feature Films’ competition section, while the second was selected for ‘Contrechamp’. Also competitive, the ‘Contrechamp’ section, introduced in 2019, aims to “provide a better platform for the most unique proposals and those that present greater challenges to the audience.” All three films prominently feature female components. Meanwhile, Buffalo Kids, showcased in the ‘Annecy Presents’ section, serves as a prime example of a title with a strong market appeal for general audiences.

The summer months, as well as November and December, saved a year whose first half did not record good figures. However, Spanish cinema and local distributors ended up being the year's big winners, increasing their revenues compared to 2023.

Q&A with Antonio Saura, founder of Latido Films
For over two decades at the helm of Latido Films, Antonio Saura has sold key titles of Spanish cinema worldwide. Moreover, his unique experience in the sector is also backed by his credits as a producer for Zampa Audiovisual and Zebra Producciones, as well as his role as deputy chairman of the European Film Academy from 2008 to 2019, and his two-year tenure as director of the Media Business School, one of the most prominent international business training institutions. Saura’s historical perspective is undoubtedly exceptional in terms of the history of Spanish cinema and its global reach.
Some recent, brilliant Spanish titles in Latido line-up include Isaki Lacuesta’s “Saturn Return”, Carlos Marques-Marcet’s “They Will Be Dust”, Antón Álvarez’s “The Flamenco Guitar of Yerai Cortés” or David Pérez Sañudo’s “The Last Romantics”.

Animar_BCN calls for greater pan-European cohesion of the sector and announces new events
A stronger legal framework of support, compatible with the different territories to promote European co-productions, the improvement of tax incentives linking them to the retention of intellectual property (IP), the imperative need to review and correct the underfunded children's programming, as well as to strengthen its protection and the development of a common guide on good sustainable practices are some of the conclusions and objectives of work that they highlighted in Animar_BCN, a brainstorming event that was held last November in Barcelona.

This week, Spain is welcoming a delegation from the China Film Producers Association \(CFPA\) as part of a mission promoted by ICEX, through #AudiovisualFromSpain, and organised together with Bridging Visions.
During their visit, seven representatives from the Chinese audiovisual industry are getting to know Spain’s creative ecosystem and meeting with producers, companies, institutions and industry professionals across the country.
An opportunity to share experiences, build connections and bring two audiovisual markets closer together.
The programme, which coincides with the Festival de San Sebastián - Donostia Zinemaldia and will conclude at Iberseries & Platino Industria, includes activities and meetings in San Sebastian, Bilbao, Toledo, Madrid and Barcelona.
