Since Destroyer, the first Spanish video game to be commercialized, appeared in 1980, the Spanish video game industry has gone through different phases, not all of them involving growth. There have been moments of great splendor and popularity, but also unremarkable periods of time. We are currently witnessing the peak of the industry's history in terms of the number of Spanish video games developed, and perhaps also in terms of quality, to the point that we are already beginning to talk about a second golden age for Spanish software.
One of the biggest companies in the Spanish video game industry, and one of those that has contributed the most to it, is undoubtedly The Game Kitchen. And I say company, because it has managed to make the leap from being a development studio to offering much more to the infrastructure of the sector in Spain.

2023 is the year that has seen highest production of Spanish video games - more than 300. However, it was 2010 that marked the beginning of this upward trend, and in 2012 the number of video games published exceeded 100 for the first time, reaching a total of 134. Since then, the number has never dropped below 150, even during difficult times such as the years marked by the COVID pandemic, an indication that the video game industry is a sector in continuous growth that seems to be immune to any crisis.
