After Bosé, in its bid to strengthen local content this year the company will be premiering two new original series, Mentiras Pasajeras from El Deseo, and Las Invisibles from Morena Films.

The launch of SkyShowtime in Spain on February 28 has culminated the expansion of the new platform in Europe, where it already operates in 22 markets. The arrival of this joint venture between Paramount and Comcast in Spain increases business opportunities for Spanish producers.

Bosé, the first original Spanish series, arrived on SkyShowtime on March 3. Two other new local productions are due to premiere later this year: Mentiras pasajeras, produced by Paramount and the Almodóvar brothers' company El Deseo, and Las invisibles, produced by Paramount and Morena Films.
Following the launch of SkyShowtime in Spain, the heads of the streaming platform emphasized their commitment to the Spanish market, explaining that streaming is still in the growth phase in Spain, whereas in the United States it is already a mature business. SkyShowtime has already opened negotiations with different local producers for the production of new series projects.

Increase in original productions

Furthermore, SkyShowtime has become the new and exclusive destination for 21 original HBO Max series in Europe, following an agreement reached in January between the two operators.
The second season of Por H o Por B, a series listed as a SkyShowtime Original, is coming to SkyShowtime. The first season of this series, initially produced for HBO by The Mediapro Studio through Globomedia and LaCoproductora, will also be available on the service.

Other Spanish titles included in the deal are Foodie Love, a series directed by Isabel Coixet and produced by her company Miss Wasabi, Todo Lo Otro, produced by Campanilla Films and Mandarina, with Abril Zamora, and Sin Novedad, a Warner Bros. International TV Production comedy starring Arturo Valls.

Mentiras pasajeras, at Series Manía
The production of Mentiras Pasajeras and Las Invisibles adds to the growing pool of local content available on the new streaming service, created specifically for the European market.

Described as a stylish comedy series, Mentiras pasajeras stars Hugo Silva and Elena Anaya, and was presented on March 20 at the Séries Mania Festival in Lille.

The fiction series, which consists of eight 30-minute episodes, is the first to feature Pedro Almodóvar as producer, and tells the story of a woman who is accused of industrial espionage and fired from the company she works for a month before her wedding.

Preview of Las invisibles in Malaga
Produced by Paramount together with Morena Films, the first two episodes of Las invisibles were shown on March 16, during the Malaga Film Festival.
With eight 45-minute episodes, Las invisibles is about the experiences of a group of waitresses in a luxury hotel by the Mediterranean. It was created by Héctor Lozano (Merlí: Sapere Aude) and directed by Menna Fité (Merlí: Sapere Aude) and Marta Díaz (Mi querida cofradía).
The original series Bosé, which explores different stages in the life of the legendary Spanish singer, is a Paramount production in collaboration with Shine Iberia, Elefantec Global and Legacy Rock, directed by Miguel Bardem and Fernando Trullols and scripted by Ángeles González Sinde, Isabel Vázquez, and Boris Izaguirre.
Also among SkyShowtime's most recent releases is the series Los enviados, an action thriller directed by Oscar winner Juan José Campanella (El secreto de sus ojos) which features Spanish actor Miguel Ángel Silvestre (Narcos, Sense8) as one of the stars.
With an offering that includes the catalogs of Universal Pictures, Nickelodeon, Paramount Pictures, DreamWorks Animation, Paramount+, Showtime, Sky Studios and Peacock, the SkyShowtime team is looking to increase its local programming to provide a service with the necessary balance between global and local series.
