Joined by a large delegation of Spanish producers, buyers, sales agents, regional institutions and filmmakers, Spain will host an industry pavilion, three popular events, including their annual not-to-be- missed Spanish Fiesta and will be well represented by an impressive slate of 10 Spanish co-productions screening at this year’s festival.
Focusing on their success with co-productions, the “Do It the Spanish Way! International Coproduction Forum” on Friday, September 8 will once again showcase exciting projects in development from five renowned international production companies. This year’s group includes Tourmalet Films, La Claqueta PC, En Buen Sitio Producciones, Capitán Araña and Un Capricho de Producciones; the companies arrive at TIFF with original projects spanning diverse genres from thriller, drama, comedy, animation and documentary. With substantial financing already secured, these projects offer highly attractive partnership opportunities. Each company will introduce their project and be available for 1:1 meetings following.
An annual TIFF highlight, the “Spanish Fiesta” on the evening of Saturday, September 9, invites guests back to a roof top party at Malaparte at the TIFF Bell Lightbox. By invitation only, the event provides a chance to network with Spanish filmmakers, talent and delegation while enjoying fine Spanish wine and tapas.
Finally, on Monday, September 11, “Everything Under the Sun and... More” will bring together representatives from Spanish government agencies to highlight the many attractive advantages to working and shooting in Spain. The discussion will cover everything from competitive financing and tax incentives, talent supply, state-of-the-art post production facilities and prime shooting locations that have all contributed to Spain becoming a first-choice destination for world class productions.
"Spain's participation in TIFF 2023 is, without a doubt, an opportunity to strengthen the bridges with Canada and the US for our industry; especially in terms of distribution and reach of our films. This year there will be a very interesting selection of films in the program; in addition to the projects that we have been developing with the potential for co-production. We work hard with the aim of turning Spain into a leading country in audiovisual production, since the content produced in Spain has a wide potential for internationalization. Furthermore, Spain has a large number of talented actors, directors, screenwriters and other professionals that are highly sought after by Spanish and foreign production companies making it a highly attractive industry," commented Ignasi Camós, General Director of the Spanish Film Institute (ICAA).
TIFF Industry delegates can find representatives from Spain at their CINEMA FROM SPAIN pavilion in the industry centre located at the Hyatt Regency Hotel in Festival Village.
