“While the war lasts”, Alejandro Amenábar's return to filming in Spanish after “Mar adentro” (2005), has its European premiere in the Official out-of-competition Section, after its world premiere at the Toronto Festival.
“La odisea de los giles”, another co-production with Argentina, led by K&S Films and Kenya Films, with minority stakeholder MOD, will be part of the out-of-competition Special Screenings. The film is directed by Sebastián Borensztein (“Un cuento chino”) and stars Ricardo and Chino Darín.
"La hija de un ladrón", sold by Latido
Latido Films is marketing the international rights of “La hija de un ladrón” by debutant Belén Funes who is competing for the Golden Shell, the event’s top prize. This is a coproduction by Oberón Cinematographic and Bteam Producciones, a company that has returned to production after winning the Golden Shell last year for "Entre dos aguas" by Isaki Lacuesta.
“Seventeen" by Daniel Sánchez Arévalo, an Atypical Films production ("La peste") for Netflix, is also in the official out-of-competition section.
Filmax shines at Zinemira
Filmax will present “La Gallina Turuleca” at the San Sebastián velodrome, an animated co-production of the Spanish Tandem Films, Gloriamundi Producciones and A Fonsagrada Producions together with Pampa Films and Sono Film of Argentina.
In the Zinemira competitive section, open to films with a minimum of 20% of Basque production, there are four films that Filmax is representing globally: "70 binladens" , "The double plus fifteen" , animated film "Elcano and Magellan: La primera vuelta al mundo” and “El hijo del acordeonista” by Abra Prod and Tentazioa.
Among the international sales agents that market Spanish cinema in San Sebastián are French company Reel Suspects, which is selling “Nematoma”, a European co-production of Madrid's Nephilim Producciones that is competing in New Directors. Nephilim is also presenting another co-production, “Los tiburones”, winner of Cine en Construcción 2018, which is taking part in Horizontes Latinos and is being sold internationally by New York company Visit Films.
Another French agency, Pyramid International, is managing sales of “O que arde” by Galician Oliver Laxe, a co-production of Miramemira and Kowalski Films with 4A4 Productions from France and Tarantula from Luxembourg, which won the Cannes Jury Prize, and which is at the festival in the Perlak section.
"Perfect life", Leticia Dolera’s television series for Movistar+ , winner of the Cannes Series, will be available complete in the Velódrome, with German sales agent Beta Film.
Also in San Sebastián “Adiós”, by Paco Cabezas, will take centre stage at the RTVE Gala. It has been produced by Enrique López Lavigne of Apache Films with Sony Pictures International Productions, which owns international rights over the film.
